Canadian Waters Expedition
Below are the companies that chose to sponsor our 2010 Expedition! It is now 2015 and we are still using the crap out of this gear and it is holding up fabulously. Specifically- the Nova Craft Canoe performed very well on our 2010 expedition. We put it the many miles of rapids, and the royalex held up great to the assault of new paddlers vs. lots of rocks. We are still using it years later. Also- Lindsey has spent 5 consecutive summers basically living in her MTI lifejacket and it shows little signs of wear. I put some oil on the zipper last summer, and she works like new. Our Bending Branches paddles are not only functional and efficient, but also beautiful and coveted. My paddle is probably one of the most sentimental things I own. Finally- the Bug Shirts are a must. I used my Original Bugshirt for 3 summers as a guide in the BWCAW. It fell out of a pack on a portage trail and I immediately bought another without hesitation. It is light, durable and a complete sanity saver. If you are planning a trip and have questions about gear, feel free to contact us. Luke is a gear rep and is a wealth of knowledge and passion, and Lindsey is a guide who can help answer questions about what works for novices and pros alike.
Our Sponsors
Nova Craft has agreed to sponsor the expedition with one of their legendary 18' Prospector Expedition Canoes in royalex lite. We know their Prospector line will be exactly what we need for the many miles of paddling ahead of us. See our canoe, along with the rest of the linup at http://www.novacraft.com
Granite Gear has agreed to provide us with pro-deals on their excellent food and gear packs. We are in the midst of deciding which of these top-quality packs will be represented on the expedition- more updates soon. To view packs and other Granite Gear merchandise please see their full line at www.granitegearstore.com.
Bending Branches has been kind enough to sponsor us with their top of the line expedition paddles, the Viper and Expedition Plus. See their fantastic line of paddles here: www.BendingBranches.com
MTI has sponsored us with two whitewater paddling jackets seen online at http://www.mtiadventurewear.com/.
YSI has agreed to let us use one of their water quality sondes. This equipment is crucial to our study, and YSI makes the best in scientific sampling equipment. See their products: www.ysi.com
Rutabaga Paddle Shop, the paddler owned business responsible for putting on Canoecopia every year in Madison, WI, has partnered with us. For those who are unfamiliar with Canoecopia it is a gathering for paddlers around the states that features educational speakers, conservation organizations and a huge variety of paddling related vendors. We had the pleasure of traveling to Canoecopia this year and were able to attend a paddling club meeting, browse a warehouse full of gear and connect with many of the people we are now partnered with- Nova Craft, Granite Gear, Bending Branches, Boundary Waters Journal and others. For more about the gear, seminars and mission of Rutabaga please visit their website: http://www.rutabaga.com.
The Original Bugshirt company gave us a great deal on two of the shirts, which turned out to be absolute sanity savers during some of the buggiest days. Lindsey also used hers all summer 2011, 2012 & 2014 during her (awesome) stints as a Girl Scout Canoe Guide in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) of Minnesota. We highly recommend these because they are lightweight so you stay cooler but the bugs can't bite through, they keep the critters out of your face and ears, and they are fitted well- long sleeves, long torso, etc, for really great coverage. http://www.bugshirt.com/
