Hello to all of our friends, family, supporters and those who just happened upon our expedition. We plan to post updates during the trip here, but as we are reaching the final weeks of our planning, feel free check back to see how it is coming along. Also, any comments, suggestions or words of encouragement are also welcome, just click "comment" and leave us a message! Here are just a few highlights from recent weeks/days/hours:
- Sponsors have been in contact with us daily and we are now partnered with some excellent gear companies. In March we were lucky enough to gain the support of Bending Branches, which has provided us with three amazing paddles. Just two weeks ago we picked up our 18ft Prospector from Nova Craft-a beautiful canoe we are confident will stand up to the rigors of the trip to Hudson Bay. Also, this week we should be receiving our water sampling equipment from YSI and will be building the rig that will hold it to the canoe. Check out our "Sponsors" tab for more information!
- The Boundary Waters Permit has officially been purchased- we will launch on Sunday, May 23rd from Fall Lake outside of Ely, MN. We are still planning the weekend and when we will have a get together "send off" but we will let everyone know as those details are determined!- If you are a member of facebook, please feel free to join the newly primed group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=119090921440543&v=info
-This weekend Luke and I will be doing our three- day ~55mile training run down the St. Croix. This will give an opportunity to test many of the logistical pieces of our trip- from the solar panel chargers for our electronics (laptop, GPS, cameras, etc.) to how we are going to handle portages, meals, weather, and so much more! We will be putting up photos if you are interested to know what challenges we faced.
