Hey Everyone! Luke and I are really excited to officially announce our plans to circumnavigate Lake Superior this summer! We decided in late march that we wanted to do another expedition, but have been trying to plan a route and align our schedules with Luke's new job-who are being very supportive of us and we are so appreciative of that! Needless to say, we are very excited and have a lot of details to hammer out before our expected launch date in late June (June 23rd!). Check our "updates" tab for details and below is some general trip information:
Expected Approximate Dates: June 23rd- September 30th
Mileage: Lake Superior Coastline-1600miles; Expected Paddling- 1200miles
Needs: Just some Love! This trip we are trying to emphasize giving back and being involved so we are happy to announce that we had a little fundraiser last week and are donating half of the proceeds to the Northern Lakes Canoe Base- an INCREDIBLE program that takes girls 11-18 on canoe trips in the BWCAW out of Ely, MN. For more information on the canoe base here is there alumni association website: paddleanimal.org. Check out the "history" tab to learn about how awesome it is or the "council" tab to learn how to schedule a trip for your group! Men allowed when coming with a family or potentially as a parent "chaperone (even though chaperones are not needed but welcome!!).
BIG THANKS Already: To Matt and Hannah of A Superior Adventure: asuperioradventure.com
Alex and friends of The TranscanEAUda Expedition: http://transcaneauda.ca/
And the community of Paddlers in minnesota who are practically throwing (okay, at least generously offering) us words of wisdom, extremely important gear items and more.
Finally- thanks to family and friends who are offering to help with the logistics of food drops, transportation!
Why Lake Superior?: After looking at many beautiful and worthy routes in NW Canada, we settled on Lake Superior for two main reasons: 1) we can save an incredible amount of time, money and CARBON by starting and ending our journey so close to home! 2) Luke and I will have some interesting logistics as he will need to leave for a couple of exciting work trips during the summer- so him needing to leave and return would have been impossible if we had chosen a route in faraway places. This is exciting because it opens the opportunity for Lindsey to have loved ones sub in or to do some Solo paddling- a longtime dream. And- without needing to say it- Lake Superior offers beauty and adventure beyond words...
Tracking Us During the Trip: We have great respect for the challenges and dangers of Lake Superior, so similar to our last trip we will be carrying a SPOT locator with which we can press a button daily that will plot our location on a map. (Sidenote-the device can also be used to call for help.) So once we have that all set up we will post the link on here and you can click on it and see where we are at!
More Love and Updates to Come!
